Quick Facts
This tour runs privately, for your group only. No other travelers join your vehicle. You choose the pace. You choose the stops.
Sahara Unlimited runs this route from our base near Marrakech’s Gueliz district. Our drivers know every turn from Avenue Mohammed V to the dunes of Erg Chebbi. That local knowledge shapes every stop on this trip.
This tour is fully private. Your driver and guide work only with your group. Families, couples, and friends often book this route because it lets them set their own schedule.
Group tours mix travelers from different hotels into one bus. Private tours give you one vehicle, one guide, and full control over timing. If you want an early start from your riad near Jemaa el-Fnaa, we build the day around you.
We are one of the leading operators for tours and travels in Morocco from Marrakech. Detailed itinerary below. Possible to customize any of our desert trips from Marrakech.
Sahara Unlimited organises desert tour from Marrakech. This is private tour to Sahara desert , available every day.
Your driver picks you up at 7:30 AM from your riad or hotel. Pickup covers all central Marrakech, including areas near Bab Doukkala and the Menara district.
We leave the city and climb into the High Atlas Mountains on the Tizi n’Tichka pass. This road sits above 2,200 meters. Snow covers the peaks in winter. Green valleys spread out below in spring.
We stop at Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village built from red clay. UNESCO named it a World Heritage Site in 1987. Its walls appear in several major film productions, including Gladiator.
After lunch in Ouarzazate, we pass through Skoura’s palm groves and the rose fields near Kelaat M’Gouna. The day ends in the Dades Valley, where you sleep in a local riad surrounded by rock canyons.
After breakfast, we drive through Todra Gorge. Limestone cliffs rise over 300 meters on both sides. The river at the base stays cold and clear year-round. You’ll have time to walk along it and take photos.
We continue through Tinjdad and Erfoud, towns known for fossil workshops and date palm oases. By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga and the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Camels wait for you here. You’ll ride across the sand as the light turns orange, then gold, then pink. At the top of a high dune, you’ll watch the sunset over the desert. Dinner and Berber drum music follow at camp. You sleep in a private tent under a sky full of stars.
Wake before dawn to see the sunrise over Erg Chebbi. Many travelers call this the best moment of the entire trip.
After breakfast, we return by camel or 4×4 to Merzouga, where your driver waits. The route home passes through Rissani, known for its large souk, then follows the Draa Valley toward the Anti Atlas Mountains.
We cross the Tizi n’Tichka pass again before reaching Marrakech in the evening. Your driver drops you at your riad or hotel, ending the tour where it began.
Prefer a shorter drive home? Ask about ending your tour at Errachidia Airport instead, with a short flight back to Marrakech.
Prices below cover the full 3-day, 2-night package. Rates drop as group size grows, since vehicle and driver costs split between travelers.

Yes. Standard camps offer private tents with shared bathroom facilities nearby. Luxury camps include a private bathroom with hot water inside each tent.
Standard camps focus on comfort and authenticity, with shared common areas. Luxury camps add private bathrooms, upgraded bedding, and a more polished dining setup. Both sit in the same dune area near Merzouga.
Camels carry you across the dunes for about 45 minutes to reach camp. The pace stays slow, which gives you time to watch the colors shift across the sand
The ride runs 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on the camp’s location. If you’d rather skip the camel, a 4×4 transfer is available at no extra cost.
You carry only what you need for the night. The camp’s 4×4 transports the rest of your luggage and meets you at camp
Sahara Unlimited uses newer vehicles with working air conditioning, checked before every trip.
Yes. Your driver holds a Moroccan tourism license and speaks English. Many of our drivers have worked this exact route for over a decade.
Pickup starts at 7:30 AM at your riad or hotel. If your street is too narrow for a vehicle, common in the old medina, we meet you at the nearest accessible corner. Drop-off follows the same process on return, usually between 6 and 8 PM.
Yes. Tell us about any allergies or preferences when booking. We pass this information to every riad and camp on your route.
Most travelers manage this tour well. Daily drives run 5 to 9 hours, with regular stops. If long drives feel difficult, ask about our 5-day version, which spreads the same route over more days.
Spring and autumn bring the most comfortable desert temperatures. Summer days get hot in Merzouga but cool fast after sunset. Winter nights in the desert can drop near freezing, so pack warm layers.
Bring a scarf for sand and wind, sunscreen, a warm layer for desert nights, and comfortable shoes for walking on dunes. A power bank helps, since camp outlets are limited.

If flexibility and comfort matter more than saving a few dollars, a private tour fits better.
Sahara Unlimited has run private Morocco tours for over 12 years. We’ve hosted more than 5,000 travelers, with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 across major review platforms, including TripAdvisor.
Our guides hold licenses from the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism. Every camp and riad we use is personally inspected by our operations team before we recommend it. This matters because unlicensed operators sometimes cut corners on safety and vehicle upkeep. The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) publishes safety and licensing guidance for travelers who want to verify an operator before booking.
Citizens of the US, UK, Canada, and most EU countries do not need a visa for stays under 90 days. Check current requirements with Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs before you travel.
Yes. Licensed guides know the routes, weather patterns, and safe camp locations. Solo travelers, including women traveling alone, regularly complete this tour without issue.
Yes. You can add nights in Merzouga, detour through Fes instead of returning to Marrakech, or slow the pace with a 4 or 5-day version of this same route.
A deposit confirms your booking. The remaining balance is due in cash, by card, or by bank transfer once you arrive.
Moroccan dirham (MAD) works best for small purchases. ATMs are common in Marrakech and Ouarzazate. Cards work in most hotels and riads, but bring cash for local markets and tips.
Add a night to break up the long drive home, or spend a full extra day exploring the dunes and nearby oases.
