Quick Facts
This tour runs privately, for your group only. Your driver picks you up in Marrakech and returns you to the same city four days later. No other travelers share your vehicle.
Sahara Unlimited runs this route from our base near Marrakech’s Gueliz district. The extra day compared to our 3-day tour means fewer rushed stops and a scenic return through the Draa Valley instead of a direct drive back
Both tours are private. This 4-day version adds a full day, so you enter Merzouga and leave through a different route. The 3-day tour returns the same way it came. This tour loops south through Nkob, the Draa Valley, and Agdz instead.
Choose 3 days if you have limited time and want the fastest loop. Choose 4 days for a different return route and more time in the desert. Choose 5 days if you want an extra night to explore Erg Chebbi by 4×4 or add Zagora. Contact us and we’ll help you match the days to your trip.
We are one of the leading operators for tours and travels in Morocco from Marrakech. Detailed itinerary below. Possible to customize any of our desert trips from Marrakech.
Sahara Unlimited organises desert tour from Marrakech. This is private tour to Sahara desert , available every day.
Your driver picks you up at 8:00 AM from your riad or hotel. Pickup covers all central Marrakech, including areas near Bab Doukkala and the Menara district.
We climb the High Atlas Mountains on the Tizi n’Tichka pass, reaching 2,260 meters. We stop at Ait Benhaddou, a fortified clay village and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Its walls have appeared in Gladiator and other major films.
After lunch in Ouarzazate, we visit Taourirt Kasbah before continuing through Skoura’s palm groves and the rose fields of Kelaat M’Gouna. The day ends in the Dades Valley, where you sleep in a local guesthouse surrounded by rock canyons.
After breakfast, we drive through Todra Gorge. Limestone cliffs rise over 300 meters on both sides, with a river running along the base.
We continue through Tinghir and Erfoud, towns known for date palms and fossil workshops. By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga and the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Camels wait for you here. You’ll ride across the sand as the light shifts from gold to orange. At the top of a high dune, you’ll watch the sunset over the Sahara. Dinner and Berber drum music follow at camp. You sleep in a private tent under a clear desert sky.
Wake before dawn for sunrise over Erg Chebbi. Many travelers add optional quad biking or a 4×4 excursion around the dunes this morning, at your own cost.
After breakfast, return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4. We drive southwest toward Tazzarine, a small town used as a filming location for Babel. In Nkob, you’ll have lunch and time to see the old kasbahs.
We continue through the Draa Valley to Agdz, a historic resting point on the old caravan routes to Timbuktu. The road passes palm groves and mud-brick villages before we reach Ouarzazate for the night.
After breakfast, we visit the Kasbah of Telouet, once the residence of the powerful Glaoui family. Its walls still show mosaics and carved wood ceilings from that period.
We cross the High Atlas Mountains again through Tizi n’Tichka, with stops for photos along the way. The tour ends with a drop-off at your riad or hotel in Marrakech, usually in the late afternoon.
